According to an anonymous source, 4-star point guard Markell Johnson may announce his college decision tomorrow. Though this is not confirmed, other sources are hearing similarly. Markell Johnson is currently a 2017 recruit, but may reclass to the 2016 class. He has not yet officially reclassified, but many believe he will become a 2016 recruit. The source told us Johnson will announce "in honor of his dad", who has unfortunately passed away. Sunday is Father's Day, so it does seem like a good time for Johnson to announce if he were to do it to honor his father.
Johnson is an elite point guard attending East Technical High School in Cleveland, Ohio. Johnson averaged 31.2 PPG, 7.4 RPG, and 3.5 APG this season for East Technical. Though he is undersized at 6-1, Johnson is undoubtedly an incredible scorer.
As far as Johnson's recruitment goes, many schools are involved. Florida, Louisville, NC State, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Xavier are the schools still active in Johnson's recruitment. As of Saturday night, NC State seemed to be the leader for Johnson with 50% of the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Louisville (33%), Texas A&M (8%) and Xavier (8%) hold the remaining 50%. Johnson completed his visit to NC State June 8. NC State has heavy momentum in his recruitment. The official Twitter account for NC State athletics tweeted out a gif hinting that Johnson will announce tomorrow and will join the Wolfpack. The gif says, "This Father's Day, a new addition, joins the pack." The caption reads, "#WPN.... Stay tuned." (#WPN meaning "Wolf Pack Nation".)
PREDICTION: NC State
Florida and Ohio State seem out of the race for Johnson. Louisville, NC State, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Xavier all seem to have a chance to land Johnson, but NC State stands out. If the unlikely scenario plays out where Johnson doesn't decide on NC State, Texas A&M would likely be the choice. Aside from those two, I don't see any other school being his college choice.
