2016 2-star Guard De'Edrick "Dooley" Petty Commits to Alabama A&M
Alabama A&M and head coach Willie Hayes have picked up a commitment from senior PG Dooley Petty. Petty had interest and offers from numerous Division II schools, but decided to go for the big leagues and take his talents to in state Alabama A&M. Alabama A&M "felt like home", Petty told us. He also likes the competition they play against in the SWAC, which includes schools such as Texas Southern, Alcorn State, Southern University, among others. Alabama A&M can have a tough out-of-conference schedule, which included Tulane and Murray State last season. Petty also told us the offense they run is "his style of play".
Petty is a pass first point guard and a lockdown defender. His defense is probably the biggest strength in his play. He has the ability to blow by his defender and get to the rim and fight through contact. He is a great free throw shooter and gets to the line often. He averaged 16 PPG, 4.3 APG and 2 BPG this season for Bessemer City High School, a top 5 team in Alabama ranked in the top 300 nationally.
